The Security and Preparedness Program funds basic scientific research that advances understanding of global and national security issues. It supports theoretically motivated, conceptually precise, methodologically rigorous, and empirically oriented projects. The program also funds undergraduate research experiences and infrastructural activities, including methodological innovations. Applied research is not supported.
