This fellowship supports recent doctoral scientists in astronomy and astrophysics to carry out integrated independent research and education programs. Fellows may engage in observational, instrumental, theoretical, laboratory, or archival data research at eligible U.S. or specified international host institutions. The program fosters early-career investigators' development toward leadership in the scientific community over a period of up to three years.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents with a doctoral degree earned within five years prior to the deadline or by October 1 following the deadline. Proposals are submitted individually by candidates who identify mentors and eligible host institutions.
