The Sociology Program supports basic research on societies, institutions, groups, and demography, focusing on processes of individual and institutional change. It funds theoretically grounded empirical studies on topics such as organizations, population dynamics, social movements, labor force participation, stratification, family, social networks, and the sociology of science and technology. Both original data collection and secondary data analysis using quantitative and qualitative methods are supported, including projects offering methodological innovations.
