Supports basic research to understand perceptual, cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural, and biological developmental processes across the lifespan. Funds studies with diverse populations including infants, children, adults, and non-human animals. Encourages multidisciplinary, multi-method, and longitudinal research that advances developmental theories and methods. Does not fund clinical trials or health outcome research. Budgets typically range from $100,000 to $200,000 per year for about three years. Workshops and conferences considered by invitation.
Proposals may be submitted by U.S. institutions of higher education, for-profit organizations, non-profit non-academic organizations, federal agencies, state and local governments, tribal nations, and foreign organizations for U.S. portions of cooperative projects.
