Supports fundamental research in cultural anthropology using diverse methodologies such as ethnographic fieldwork, surveys, computational modeling, and archival research. Proposals must focus on theory-generating or theory-testing research that produces generalizable findings to build a robust anthropological science of human society and culture. Applied or policy-driven research without theory advancement is not supported.
Eligible applicants include U.S.-based non-profit non-academic organizations associated with research or education, accredited U.S. institutions of higher education, and federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native tribes.
