This funding opportunity supports R01 applications proposing research on palliative care across the lifespan for persons with serious illnesses and their care partners. Funded projects may include hypothesis-driven clinical trials aligned with NIH Stage Model Stages II-V and non-clinical trial research such as health services and observational studies. Interventions must be developed and testable, excluding Stage I pilot testing. Recipients join the NIH-funded ASCENT Consortium community.
