The COBRE-D program supports institutions in IDeA-eligible states to increase biomedical research capacity in strategic areas with limited existing infrastructure. It funds recruitment and mentoring of early-career investigators, establishment of research facilities, and enhancement of research administration. This program serves as a development phase leading to expansion and sustainability phases, with no clinical trials allowed.
Eligible applicants are institutions in IDeA-eligible states that award doctoral degrees in health-related sciences or are independent biomedical research institutes with ongoing NIH or federal biomedical research funding. Foreign organizations and components are not eligible.
