This opportunity funds up to $1,000,000 for acquiring private forest land in Michigan and Wisconsin's Lake Superior Basin. Projects must protect forested properties threatened by conversion, provide economic, environmental, educational, and recreational benefits, and enhance habitat resilience and connectivity for native species. Competitive proposals demonstrate strong public benefits and community engagement within the Terrestrial Habitat Connectivity Pilot Area.
Eligible applicants include federally recognized Indian Tribes, local governments (county, city, township), and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations excluding institutions of higher education. Applicants must be qualified to acquire and manage land.
