This competitive grant supports Indian Tribes, local governments, and qualified nonprofits to establish community forests by acquiring private forest land. Funded projects must protect forestland from non-forest conversion, ensure public access, and provide benefits including recreation, environmental, economic, and educational programs. Eligible applicants include federally recognized Native American tribal governments, city or township governments, municipal or county governments with land use jurisdiction, and qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit conservation organizations.
