This initiative funds coordinated, direct intervention efforts across public safety, justice, mental health, and substance use agencies to increase access to treatment and reduce burdens on law enforcement and justice systems. It supports comprehensive service networks addressing untreated mental illness and substance use, aiming to decrease recidivism, reduce crime, and restore community order through institutional care and civil commitment processes when appropriate.
Eligible applicants include state, county, city, township, special district, and Native American tribal governments, as well as nonprofit or for-profit mental health agencies designated by state mental health authorities with supporting documentation.
