This program funds competitive grants for non-Federal researchers to develop and test improved fishing practices and gear technologies that reduce bycatch and post-release mortality in commercial and recreational fisheries. It aims to meet legal mandates to minimize bycatch and habitat impacts, supporting sustainable fisheries and protecting endangered species.
Eligible applicants include individuals, institutions of higher education, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, and state, local, U.S. territorial, Alaska Native, and Indian tribal governments. Federal agencies are not eligible.
