The FY 2027 DoW MURI program funds high-risk, multidisciplinary basic research projects at U.S. degree-granting institutions in science and engineering. It supports research that aims to achieve unprecedented scientific breakthroughs with broad impacts on science, economic growth, and revolutionary military technologies. Projects are closely managed and guided by Service Program Officers to ensure impactful outcomes.
Eligible applicants are U.S. institutions of higher education with degree-granting programs in science or engineering, including DoD institutions and eligible University Affiliated Research Centers. Industry, DoD labs, FFRDCs, and foreign entities may collaborate but cannot receive funds directly.
