This program funds projects to digitize historically significant newspapers published between 1690 and 1963 across all U.S. states and jurisdictions. The goal is to create a freely accessible, searchable online database maintained by the Library of Congress, enhancing public access to important historical resources.
Eligible applicants include state, county, city, and special district governments; public and private institutions of higher education; federally recognized Native American tribal governments; and nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status excluding higher education institutions.
