The Affordable Rural Cooperative Program provides loans, grants, and combinations to rural electric cooperatives for nuclear energy and transmission efficiency projects. Funding supports construction, improvement, purchase, and upgrades of nuclear power and transmission facilities, including reimbursement of certain costs. Grants cover up to 25% of costs (max $20M), with loans covering up to 75%, and full funding possible for projects in Substantially Underserved Trust Areas.
Eligible applicants are operating rural electric cooperatives that are current or former Rural Electrification Act borrowers, cooperatives serving predominantly rural areas, or their wholly or jointly owned subsidiaries.
