This funding supports research to develop an enhanced gene expression panel capable of differentiating unique stressors impacting population and ecosystem health of focal Californian marine species such as sea lions, sea otters, salmon, and mussels. The project advances ecosystem monitoring programs and aligns with federal priorities on ecosystem resilience, restoration, and data-driven decision-making to support management and recovery efforts.
Applicants must be participating partners of the Californian Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU). Eligibility is limited to CESU partners providing research, technical assistance, and education.
