Major Grants support humanities programs and projects by non-profit organizations and communities across Maine. Funded activities include exhibits, films, conferences, and initiatives with broad public outreach. Proposals are evaluated on humanities content, project goals, design and budget, community engagement, and alignment with Maine Humanities priorities. Organizations serving under-resourced communities are encouraged to apply.
Eligible applicants include 501c3 non-profits, government organizations, churches, and educational institutions without fiscal sponsorship. Non-501c3 organizations require a fiscal sponsor. For-profit organizations are not eligible. Prior recipients must wait two years before reapplying.
