The Rising Star Performing Arts Competition funds emerging artists aged 18-35 with ties to Howard County. Up to 10 finalists perform a 3-minute piece at a gala in late October/early November. The winner receives $5,000, others $500 honorariums. Applicants must audition live or submit video, with performances properly licensed or public domain. The competition supports professional development and recognition in dance, music, theatre, voice, and musical theatre.
Open to individual performers or ensembles (up to four members) aged 18-35 with current or past ties to Howard County. Applicants must be available for auditions in May and the gala performance in late October or early November. Previous winners and certain council members are ineligible.
